I just caught the Ukraine episode (7-27-11) and its overwhelming! Thanks for finally making it over there. If that was only a taste, then I can't wait to sit down to devour an entire banquet of sites and sounds of Ukraine! Your scenes have revealed a sprawling countryside I'd only imagined. It's huge! But don't stop now, keep heading Eastward towards the Volga and into the Caucus Region and Sochi too! I've been anxious to see it for a while now!

I read that this famous method of preparing chicken is not of Ukrainian origin as the name Kiev would imply. It has French roots. "Cotelettes de volaille" (cutlets of poultry) were and are served in Paris. This dish started to be cooked in St.Petersburg as well (French fashion and food were very popular among wealthy Russian households and the court). But after the revolution in 1917, which was not the best for gourmets, "cotelettes de volaille" "moved" to Kiev, where they were served untill 1918, but without much success. Only after 1947 this meal reappeared again and was spread throughout the whole USSR, but already under other name - "Chicken Kiev". It gained popularity among elite and high society, and after getting "green light", became a visiting card of Kiev.

no less than 100 Kopiyoks in 1 Hryvnia :-)
By the way, our Ukrainian Hryvnia was acknowledged as one of the most beautiful banknotes in Europe.
