The former Portuguese colony of Goa on India's south
central west coast has been a favourite hippy and backpacker
hangout since the 1960's.
Climate
In Goa the monsoon season has usually broken by October. Between
then and February it's not uncomfortably hot. The climate's
fresh and clear and it's time for the party to begin.
Highlights
Anjuna Market
Set up in the 1960's by western travellers who had to sell
the contents of their backpacks to fund a flight home, the
market has grown up as a thriving commercial centre where
you buy just about anything - from exotic silk to genuine
Italian lasagne.
Deserted beaches
Despite Goa's popularity, it's still possible to find secluded
spots to chill out and soak in Goa's unique and laid-back
atmosphere. |
