The island's biggest cultural celebration takes place at
Easter time in Kingston, Ocho Rios and Montego
Bay, and includes flamboyantly costumed groups which parade
and dance in the streets. Soca parties, reggae and
calypso bands are just some of the events to look forward
to. Top performers come from Trinidad, Tobago and elsewhere
in the Caribbean.
Carnival 2002
Since being introduced in the late 1980s, by Byron Lee
of the Dragonnaires, the carnival has become an established
event and a promotional tool for Jamaican tourism.
The 2002 acts will include 'The Mighty Sparrow, The Mighty
Duke and Trinidad & Tobago Road March Monarch Show.
Amongst the stars, you can expect Sanelle Dempster, Ronnie
Mckintosh, Edwin Yearwood and Iwer George.
One of the major events for carnival week is vintage meets
soca, which will boast David Rudder, Marvin Brooks
among others, while the lineup for the Calypso Tent will also
include Montserratian, The Mighty Arrow. |
