Feast out at some of the Pilot crew's favourite restaurants
we discovered filming Pilot Guides: Southern Mexico.
Pazcuaro
El Primer Piso
Plaza Vasco de Quiroga
Placed on the second floor of a very old building with balconies
over the square, El Primer Piso is a great place to watch
life go past. It's also very romantic at nights. Menus are
cheap and food is good especially their fab coffee for afters.
Acapulco
El Amigo Miguel
This restaurant is one of the most popular both with locals
and tourists. It serves fresh fish daily at very economical
prices. Most nights a trio of Mariachis will lift up
your humour and help digest the big portions.
100% Natural
This is part of a chain with a wide choice of vegetarian meals
in Mexico, which are hard to find in Mexico. They do lovely
juices with fresh fruit so huge that are worth a meal to accompany
them!
Puerto Escondido
Aroma Divino
On the Zicatela beachfront, this restaurant has an
extensive vegetarian menu. It looks right to the beach and
is at its most beautiful during sunset. The staffs are friendly
and the menus very economical.
San Cristobal de Las Casas
Emiliano's moustache
Rosas 7
Situated near the Plaza de Marzo this is a great place
to eat. The atmosphere is brilliant with locals and foreigners
making the most of the exquisite range of tortillas that you
can find in the menu. There is live music every night and
the best feature of the restaurant is a poster of Emiliano
Zapata overlooking all the guests. Open until late.
Madre Tierra & Panaderia Madre Tierra
Insurgentes 19
Offers a wide range of vegetarian menus, filling soups and
sandwiches. It's quite and dark and the staff quite friendly.
Menus start at around U$5.
Guanajuato
Try the terraces around the Jardin de la Union. Menus
are economical and food generally good, especially the 'carnecitas'
at the Hotel Luna. At night the atmosphere is great,
with lots of families and students. There's always a band
of mariachis around to make your meal even more enjoyable.
Also try eating out in the market. The stalls serve all kind
of Mexican delicacies including chicken mole (traditional
chicken with chocolate and spice sauce).
El Gallo Pitagorico
Housed in a big bright blue building this restaurant serves
some of the most delicious Italian food in Mexico. The views
over the city are magnificent and the décor really
impressive. Definitively a ten. |
