Where it's at

The coastline of Gizo island, part of the Solomon Island chain, is dotted with shipwrecks from the second world war. The Tao Maru just failed to make it to port after being torpedoed and the abandoned hulk is full of artefacts from everyday life on board.

Climate

July to August is the ideal time to go - it's not unbearably hot and sticky and it's when the more colourful public holidays happen.
